What Belgian fiduciaries should require from an AI bookkeeping tool

11 September 20266 min readBy the Counzel team

The right AI tool should make a firm more reviewable and more consistent—not simply faster at producing unverified output.

Every AI bookkeeping demonstration looks efficient when the file is clean. The serious test is what happens when a supplier is unusual, a VAT treatment is unclear or a client file is incomplete.

Five non-negotiables

  • Traceability: reviewers can see the document, comparable history and reason behind a proposal.
  • Belgian depth: accounts, VAT and filing workflows fit the local context.
  • Human approval: no posting or filing happens silently.
  • Security clarity: access, data location and processor arrangements are documented.
  • Measurable pilot: the firm can test real work with agreed success measures.

Ask operational questions

Who corrects a proposal? How does the model learn from that correction? Which clients are in scope? What happens when confidence is low? A supplier that cannot answer these questions is selling a demo rather than a workflow.

Start with a bounded pilot, keep the team in control and measure both hours saved and review quality.
